Understand how the customs process works
Many entrepreneurs have a certain fear of importing products, fearing that they will invest in something and end up losing money due to some flaw in the customs process, or even lose the cargo. Can this happen? Yes, it can happen, but in very specific cases and in procedures that harm the business legitimacy.
Brazil is one of the most bureaucratic countries for product taxation. However, from now on you will know that with Connect Latam all this is easier.
Import license
If the product you want to import is on the list of those that need to have a specific authorization from some agency, such as: Ministry of Agriculture, ANVISA, DECEX, IBAMA, for example, you will have to present the import license. Without that, there is no way forward, but don’t worry, you can be sure that we will also take care of this part.
However, if it is not necessary to present the customs license, even better. The customs clearance process for your cargo will be even faster.
Transport process of the goods
There is a need for the transporter to inform the Tax Authorities about what is going to be imported. In this communication the Import License is generated. The information submitted must follow the details of the product.
In this period the product’s nationalization expenses are also calculated.
Import Declaration
Once the cargo has passed through customs and all the requirements mentioned above have been fulfilled, the Import Declaration is issued.
Cargo parameterization and customs conference
Continuing with the customs clearance, now the cargo will be analyzed by the Tax Agency agents. Based on the Import Declaration, the cargo is analyzed and classified into: green, yellow, red and gray.
- Green: automatic release
- Yellow: requires documentation analysis;
- Red: FAFTA agents will analyze the cargo documentation and compare the declared data with the physical products.
- Gray: in this category, in addition to the product data analysis, it is checked what has been imported, the declared value to verify possible frauds.
Customs clearance final step
After payment of all taxes, the customs broker issues the invoice and the goods are released for delivery to the importer.
